YOG IN OUR CHARACTER
YOG IN OUR CHARACTER
-By:- Abhijit Yadav
Patanjali explained the Importance of the eightfold path, popularised under the name of ASHTHANG. Among the eight limbs(ASHTHANG) of yog, the first two limbs are YAM(abstinence) and NIYAM(discipline and character). These two are more prominent and placed even before the ASANAS(postures) and PRANYAM(control of breath) among the eight limbs of yog. But still, for the masses, the definition of yog ends just at ASANAS and PRANAYAM. It's not practically possible for a person in a state of severe depression to look after his physical health because a person with an unstable mind can never build a stable physic. And in a similar manner, a person with great physical health but without morals and ethics of universal acceptance for all will always be a liability for a nation, for a society. As KRISHNA says in BHAGAVAD GITA
सर्वभूतस्थमात्मानं सर्वभूतानि चात्मनि।
ईक्षते योगयुक्तात्मा सर्वत्र समदर्शनः।|
that someone who looks upon everyone with equality and accepts everyone as a part of himself without any biases is a YOGI in a true sense. So YOG is not just merely about a person's physical well-being but also guides a person to be a complete human being with great character and high morals.
Beautifully explained.. ✨
